Motorcycle Theft Growing Fast In Queensland

Motorcycle Theft is increasing drastically and accounts for 1 in 6 of all stolen vehicles in Australia. According to recent reports from the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council motorcycle thefts have increased by 9% in the past 12 months March 2018 – March 2019. Motorcycles are easier to transport and quick to strip down to parts hence the growing appeal to thieves. We at Northside Motorcycle Tyres & Service have noticed more and more posts on social media of motorcycles being stolen in and around the Brisbane area and wanted to raise awareness and help reduce the risk to our customers.

Lock It Or Lose It

So what can you do to protect your Motorcycle and not be one of these statistics?

  • Make sure your motorcycle is insured
  • Use a locking device eg disc lock, chain and padlock, some disc locks now have built in alarms
  • Secure your bike to an immovable object or anchor, wall/floor anchors
  • Always secure your bike using the steering lock
  • Purchase a motorcycle cover (if it can’t been seen it’s not as appealing)
  • Invest in an engine immobiliser to ensure the bike cannot be ridden away
  • Purchase a GPS tracker
  • If possible store your motorcycle in a locked garage or behind gates
  • Make sure to record your VIN number – this is a 17digit number located on the frame
